Thanks very much for your response, Wendy. Your contributions to American rugby are invaluable. My doubts remain: wouldn’t it have been more sensible to launch WER when it was fully structured, fully populated? Is it wise to start it off at half-bore like this?

"Ideally the WER should include every Eagle now attached to an overseas club; many seem loath to return home." The launch of the WER is certainly exciting, but it’s unrealistic to assume Eagles currently playing overseas would rush back for it right away. In leagues like the PWR, they’re competing at the highest level alongside English, Welsh, Scottish, French, and Canadian internationals, which offers unparalleled development opportunities. While the WER has immense potential and will likely become a prime destination for future Eagles, expecting that level of draw in its first year feels overly ambitious. Growth takes time, and so will building its reputation as a global hub for top talent.

The French coaching team seem hellbent on taking les Blues backwards. Gaelle Hermet and Morgane Bourgeois (examples of much needed experience and guidance, and proven youth) left at home. The only the top team not consistently choosing its best players to start each match. One wonders what such a policy does for player morale, especially youngsters thrown in at the deep end.

If you compare them with the match sheet from their match against Kenya, some of the Malagasy seem to be nicknames. For example, Nandrianina gotta be Marie Bodonandrianina, and Jinah Kely is Tiana Jinah Razanamahefa

Yes, it is a mystery why no Annaëlle Deshaye or Gaëlle Hermet, and you might add, Morgane Bourgeois, instrumental in helping Bordeaux to two elite championships.

Alas for the reintroduction of Drouin! I'm curious Okemba is listed among the Forwards. I'm not sure if she has played for Stade Francais, but back in the day she was in the Backs for Saracens. Moving from 7s to the pack vs the likes of England, Canada and NZ feels a tough assignment. In looking up Okemba I discover she's also a knight (of the Order of Merit, along with others of the Tokyo 7s team) and that she recently released a music album (can be found on youtube).
