“When we bring in players from overseas, they have to be of the highest quality and Vangalee certainly fits that bill. She is an athletic defender and is also vice-captain of Jamaica, so will bring those leadership skills to the squad.” and final member of the Team Bath Superleague squad for 2017 will be confirmed in the next few days, along with the training partners.

In the fallout from Ireland’s heartbreaking 20-18 defeat by Scotland in Parma last Sunday which cost them any chance of qualifying for next year’s World Cup in New Zealand, one of the last surviving links with the Grand Slam, World Cup semi-final and Six Nations title in 2013, 2014 and 2015, Claire Molloy, has announced her retirement from international rugby. A former intercounty footballer with Galway, the 33-year-old flanker played for Ireland 74 times over the last 12 years.

World Rugby have provided further detail on the new annual women s rugby competition involving Canada and the USA. Unveiled earlier this year, the four-team series will include New Zealand and Australia and has been dubbed the Pacific Four .

I'm pleased for the women's game that they're getting the attendances they deserve, but I still don't see why this couldn't have been run as a T20 tournament, other than the fact that the ECB realised they'd cocked up by selling the rights to Sky. The Hundred offers nothing that T20 does not and is an ultimately pointless competition in a format that no one else plays. Worse still, it introduces the nasty American idea of the franchise into domestic cricket. I hope it dies and the ECB sees sense and invests in existing white ball cricket instead (there have been some fantastic one-day cup matches involving Somerset this season)

John Hurford. 07 Aug 2021

A pointless competition. Cricket fans are fiercely loyal to their county, not some ridiculous concoction of "southern brave men". We already have a hugely popular 20 over competition, and a 50 over competition, a perfect set up. When something works why mess about with it. If this dogs breakfast of a competition is not killed before it's first anniversary I may loose interest altogether

Julian Thompson. 23 Jul 2021

*As seen on GB-TV, a well-known politician asked former England cricketer Monty Panesar in the cold light of day: ”Why are they messing about with cricket?” Without hesitation, Monty said it was to ‘expand the game’ and ‘attract a new audience’. *Asked about ‘cricket with fireworks’, Monty emphasised the quality of cricket was important, adding that it was a surprise to hit ‘highest record (numbers of viewers) watching the women’s game on TV’ (and Youtube) *In summary, yes, more people are watching, but it’s too early to say whether (on the strength of one match to date) more youngsters will take up the bat *For postscript, Monty twice appeared on TV’s University Challenge for Loughboro’ alongside Naomi Dattani. On that occasion, Naomi boldly announced she was playing in ‘The Hundred.’ Expect see Naomi playing her first match later today!

About Us

We are a small group of sports fans who would like to see a little more parity in sports reporting. England women’s teams have had some wonderful successes in the last years and yet they don’t get the recognition they deserve. We would like to begin to put that right by making them the focus of our website. You can get in touch with us from this page or via twitter
