  • 1,150 pathway players take part in festival at Malvern College
  • Largest gathering of players in the U17 and U18 age groups to take place to date

The largest gathering of pathway players to date takes place this week at Malvern College. Approximately 1,150 U17 and U18 male and female players from every Regional Academy and Centre of Excellence will meet to take part in a festival of rugby.

The 14 academies, covering the 13 Gallagher Premiership clubs plus the Yorkshire Academy and the 11 Centres of Excellence, play a series of festival games.

During this week of rugby, which will serve as preparation for the 2022-23 season, the focus is on developing individual players and giving them the chance to play against people from all over the country.

Don Barrell, Head of Performance Pathways and Programmes said: “The opportunity to bring almost every player in the under 17 and under 18 age groups together in one place will provide invaluable learning and development opportunities.

“It’s the first time we’ve had so many players from right across the country on one site and we thank Malvern College for hosting the festival.

“This is also the first time the female players from the Centres of Excellence have been involved in the festival and I know they are all looking forward to the experience.”
