Lancashire Thunder were delighted to have a session on Mind and Body from Opening Up Cricket, a local charity that promotes mental well-being and suicide prevention through cricket, with preparation for the inaugural Kia Super League season starting in July.
Following an intensive day of physical fitness at the second training camp at Emirates Old Trafford on Monday 06 June, it was over to Opening Up Cricket to guide the players through some concepts of mental fitness and wellbeing.
Mark Boyns of Opening Up Cricket said: “We are proud to partner with Lancashire Thunder as these big steps in the women’s game takes place. This exciting new venture will highlight the talent across the country, inspiring the next generation. Anything that gets more people playing and watching cricket is something we wholeheartedly back.”
Bobby Cross, Lancashire Thunder’s General Manager, added: “The whole day was another really positive step forward for the players and staff and to be able to train at Emirates Old Trafford is very special.
“To have Opening Up Cricket deliver a session to the squad at the end of the day was a wonderful opportunity for the girls to consider how our physical preparation can affect our decision making under pressure and therefore our performance. It was also a valuable insight into some of the mental health issues that can affect us all and how, as a team, we can help each other through an open approach and a willingness to care for others and to speak to friends and colleagues.
“Lancashire Thunder wholeheartedly endorse the work that Opening Up Cricket continue to do and we are sure our squad will have benefited from the experience as we move towards the competition.”
