Head coach LJ Lewis and assistant coach Sarah McKenna have selected their England U21 Women’s matchday squad to face Spain senior women this weekend.

Ahead of the Six Nations Women’s U21 Series, England U21 Women face Las Leonas at Estadio El Pantano, Villajoyosa in an uncapped fixture this Saturday (15:00 BST). The fixture will be available to stream on FER’s YouTube channel.

Gloucester-Hartpury back-row forward Sophie McQueen captains the U21 side for the first time in Alicante.

In preparation for the fixture, Lewis and McKenna will be supported by PDG Coaching Lead Benny Williams and Amber Reed.

England U21 Women face Scotland (11:00 BST kick-off) at the Hive Stadium, Edinburgh on Saturday 18th April to open their Six Nations Women’s U21 Series.

LJ Lewis said: “This group has shown courage in attacking every challenge put in front of them so far, showing commitment to improving with a mindset has been exceptional in our preparation.

“The connections built on and off the field have translated into the intensity we’re seeing in training and in how we want to play the game. The way our players have bonded and taken ownership through strong leadership has set a standard we want to maintain.

“Facing Spain’s senior side is an exciting and important test for us. It gives this group a chance to experience the physicality and game understanding required at the next level, while showcasing the identity and values we’re continuing to embed as we build towards the Six Nations.”
