Metro Bank One-Day Cup – league one match 24

  • +1

Somerset women vs Surrey women  – (match 24)- at Taunton, The Cooper Associates County Ground on Sunday 11 May 2025 (10h30)

Surrey women won ‘quite convincingly,’ by a 100-run margin. Surrey skipper Bryony Smith [110runs(from 103 balls)] played a skipper’s innings in difficult conditions. England’s Sophia Dunkley [79(from 81)] also made ‘fifty.’ International All-rounder Amanda-Jade Wellington (Australia ‘A’) bagged a 4-fer (taking 4 wickets/conceding 47 runs.) Somerset batters ‘never really got going.’ Rain played a key part, stopping play after 44 overs, the hiatus continuing through lunch. When play resumed ninety minutes later, six overs were docked from Somerset’s innings with a cut-off time of 14h55 and the target score 317 from 44 overs was calculated using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method. Commentators were impressed by Surrey’s ’stump-to-stump’ bowling with ‘good length’ and competent fielding despite two spilled catches. Danni Wyatt-Hodge (pictured – centre) was lauded for saving 20-30 runs, when fielding at ‘backward point.’  Commentators were Ed ‘cricket’ Seabourne (Sports journalist) with Polly Starkie (Social media co-host ‘Noughtie Child Podcast’ and ‘HerGameToo’ cricket ambassador.) Weather was wet with rain interruption.
