Metro Bank One-Day Cup – league one match 26

  • +1

Surrey women vs The Blaze women – (match 26) at County Ground, Beckenham on Wednesday 14 May 2025 (10h30)

With level-pegging scores for most of the match, all eyes were on unlikely match hero Dani Gregory, the tail-end bowler-turned-batter who scored the decisive ‘single’ to square the match; having previously bagged a 3-fer (taking 3 wickets/conceding 63 runs.) Batting first for The Blaze, England’s Amy Jones made top-score [80runs (from 76 balls)]; partnered by Scotland skipper Kathryn Bryce 56(66); later topped-up by All-rounder Georgia Elwiss 82(67) – Elwiss going-on to bag her first three wicket haul. By comparison England’s Alice Capsey (pictured after the match) scored a century 125(96), making her top-score ‘A-List’ score-to-date. Commentators were convinced The Blaze were ‘on a roll,’ applying a ‘squeeze,’ with ‘game over’ once Alice Capsey mis-timed aerial, and was caught by skipper Gordon from Grace Ballinger. Surrey’s big-hitting bowler-turned-batter Alexa Stonehouse [32*not out(18)] took the game by the ‘scruff-of-the-neck,’ by scoring two ‘sixes’ and two ‘fours.’ A dramatic finish proved possible, Surrey scoring eight runs from Grace Ballinger’s death over, only to draw scores level for a ‘tie’. Commentators who witnessed ‘one of their best ever games of cricket,’ were Daniel Norcross BBC Sport with Cameron Cam Ponsonby, Katya Witney (Sports journalists) and Andrew Samson (’stats’.) Separately, in fellow correspondent Bruce Perkins’s opinion: ‘One of the most dramatic finishes possible on a day of perfect May weather’ @url: http://4theloveofsport.co.uk/2025/05/15/surrey-vs-the-blaze/
