Harlequins back-row Lénaïg Corson has confirmed she will retire from rugby at the end of the 2022/23 Allianz Premier 15s season.

The 34-year-old, who joined Harlequins from Wasps in November, will hang up her boots following Saturday’s match against Worcester Warriors.

The hard-working forward, who enjoyed success as a heptathlete before making the switch to rugby at the age of 20, retires with 30 France caps to her name, alongside a successful ten-year career at Stade Rennais.

A legend of French rugby, Corson achieved her first cap in 2012 against the USA, before featuring in five Six Nations and the 2017 Rugby World Cup in Ireland. She also represented France 7s at five World Rugby 7s Series and achieved selection in the Barbarians squad in 2017 and 2021.

Commenting on her retirement, Corson said: “I am very proud to be finishing my rugby career at Harlequins. The Club embraced me so quickly and I feel like I have made life-long memories and formed a new family of teammates and staff. I have loved my time in Quins colours, and it’s been great to play alongside such a professional and talented group of players.

“Thank you also to the Quins faithful who pack The Stoop and support us every match. The supporters are extremely passionate, and I feel this reflects the Club and its determination to be a progressive force for the women’s game, raising awareness through key initiatives and playing such attractive rugby.

“It’s now time to open a new chapter in my life and move home to France. I am looking forward to launching my own personal projects, focusing on climate change awareness, and helping implement actions throughout our community and local schools to ensure we’re making sustainable choices. I am also excited to be working as a Rugby World Cup 2023 consultant and helping my country deliver a great tournament. Allez Les Bleus!”

Head Coach Amy Turner added: “We have loved having Lénaïg at Quins this season. She has provided plenty of energy and experience to our squad and made a considerable impact, both on and off the pitch. She has achieved a huge amount throughout her career and we’re extremely grateful for the opportunity to work with her this season. We look forward to celebrating her outstanding rugby career with one final send off this Saturday against Worcester.”
