Matches in the French Elite 1 are suspended forthwith. The authorities considered the views of all the clubs concerned. Several players who work or study in the field of health were concerned not to let any infection affect them and the people they make contact with.
Though opinions about continuing were divided, it was not felt sensible to continue the competition. Most clubs had decided in favour of suspension.
Government rulings had permitted the sport to continue at this elite level. It means that the two matches against England can take place, subject to the usual provisions. Some members of the staff and squad had tested positive for coronavirus.
