Team Bath Sports Training Village begins to reopen to public

  • +1

The Team Bath Sports Training Village today began the first phase of reopening to the public in line with new government guidelines.

Among the facilities in operation in phase one are the spacious Team Bath Gym & Fitness Centre and the Olympic-sized London 2012 Legacy Swimming Pool.

Doors reopened at 8am on Monday for gym workouts and swimming sessions will resume on Wednesday (August 5). Both are available to members and pay-as-you-go customers.

To provide peace of mind as people return to sport and training, a number of new Covid-compliant measures – including mandatory bookings – have been introduced as per UK Government and UK Active official guidance with safety in mind.

Social-distancing measures include a clearly-marked, one-way system in operation on all walkways, corridors and stair areas, and there are new 3m2 individual training zones in the gym and fitness studios with separations between equipment to meet regulations.

In order to monitor numbers and control access on site, customers need to book their gym workout or swim session in advance via the Team Bath website or Team Bath Active app.

The STV has been deep cleaned since shutting down in March and a new, more regular cleaning regime has been instituted in sports spaces and other areas including twice-daily cleaning slots in the main areas of the gym. Anti-bacterial wipes and sprays will also be provided in the gym, with customers asked to help by cleaning gym equipment before and after use and observing good hand hygiene at all times.

Stephen Baddeley, Director of Sport, said: “Team Bath is very much looking forward to welcoming people back into the Sports Training Village. We have been working hard during the lockdown period to ensure we can provide a compliant environment for all our customers.

“Our elite NGB [National Governing Body] squads have been back in training with us for the past few weeks and their presence on site has allowed us to test and refine our one-way systems, cleaning regimes, signage and social-distancing measures ahead of this first phase of public reopening.

“We feel these new measures will provide peace of mind so that people can enjoy their sport and the benefit of their physical workouts once more in our inspirational and motivational setting. As always, though, we’ll be asking customers for suggestions and advice if they spot any improvements we could make.”

For people who would like to continue exercising outdoors, the Team Bath Fitness team has launched a new fresh-air fitness offer utilising the STV’s beach volleyball courts. The 30-minute sessions are free to members and £5 for non-members – visit www.teambath.com/fitness/beach-fitness for more information and to book a place.

The Team Bath Tennis outdoor courts are also available to book on weekdays and Saturdays. Visit www.teambath.com/tennis for further details.
