GB Hockey return to host ‘Hockey’s Big Weekend’ at The Stoop

Harlequins and England Hockey are delighted to confirm that Great Britain’s men’s and women’s hockey teams will once again play at The Stoop.

‘Hockey’s Big Weekend’ returns to the Home of Harlequins on 16 – 17 May 2020 and will see four FIH Pro League games take place over the two days, in the event staged by England Hockey, who oversee Great Britain’s teams.

Argentina’s men and women will be Great Britain’s opponents across the weekend’s action, which will feature Argentina’s Olympic champions men’s side. Rio 2016 Olympic champions, Great Britain’s women’s side, will take on their counterparts from Argentina who have won four medals in the last five Olympics.

The ‘blue pitch’ will be back at The Stoop, with Great Britain Hockey placing themselves at the forefront of this new drop-in pitch technology.

The partnership with Harlequins has been extended to ensure a three-year staging agreement to take the sport back to The Stoop once a year until at least 2022.

Harlequins’ Commercial Director Alex Goldschmidt said, “2019 will live long in the memory for the thousands of fans who came to see international hockey at The Stoop. It was the biggest crowd at a hockey match in this country since 2012. The ground-breaking pitch technology represents such a huge opportunity to grow the game and we are delighted to be part of the ambitious journey that hockey is embarking on. We could not be more excited to welcome back Great Britain Hockey, and all hockey fans, to The Stoop in 2020.”

England Hockey Commercial Director Jonathan Cockcroft added, “Harlequins have been fantastic partners in this project and we are delighted to now have a three-year agreement in place. Like us, they are keen for sport to be as open and collaborative as possible, and with four matches in two days, Hockey’s Big Weekend in 2020 will be another great platform for our game. With these matches, plus another 12 games at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, our supporters will have the opportunity to watch great hockey in 2020 and then beyond.”

Harlequins’ Members will be able to have priority access to tickets from Wednesday 20 November as part of Great Britain Hockey’s Family Window and will be contacted this week with further information.
