Richmond Rugby are now inviting applications for the position of Head Coach of their Women’s Section.

Richmond Rugby Club: Head Coach Women’s Section

The Richmond Women’s Section is a fully integrated section of the wider Richmond Rugby Club. The Head Coach is responsible for overseeing the management of the section’s coaching team and the running and progression of the First and Second XV squads, with specific lead coaching responsibility for the First XV.

The First XV will play in the RFU Championship South. The location of the Second XV is yet to be decided by the RFU. The First XV squad consists of a number of established senior TP15s players and many others with experience of playing in the TP15s Development League. The Women’s Premiership competition runs from September to April. Fixtures are played on both Saturdays and Sundays, with club training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Whilst this is not a full time position, the nature of the role will require the successful candidate to be able to put in the requisite time and commitment to the role. It is an excellent opportunity for any current or working towards Level 3 qualified or above coach who is looking to work with a strong standard of rugby player, and expand their coaching experience given the calibre of the players involved.

Reports to: The Head Coach will lead the women’s section coaching team and will be appointed by and report directly to the Richmond Director of Rugby.

Duration: Appointed in Summer 2020 for the 2020/21 domestic league season.

Salary: There is a budget for expense remuneration which will be subject of discussion upon appointment of the successful candidates


  • Hold or be working closely towards a current Level 3 RFU coaching qualifications or its equivalent
  • Be an experienced and successful rugby coach at senior level and had previous management/coaching or playing experience in senior rugby sides (This

  • Have excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate at all levels
  • Be hardworking, honest, trustworthy and able to buy into and positively shape the culture and ethos of the section and club

Key Responsibilities:

  • To devise and lead on the training plan and coaching delivery for the section’s for the season. This will include the league and competition phases and the
  • scheduling of preseason warm up fixtures.
  • Set and work with wider section coaching team to devise the attacking and defensive strategies for all three squad
  • Manage the respective coaches appointed to run each senior squad and set clear areas of responsibility
  • Oversee and have final decision in section selection processes and ensure all coaching staff and team managers are aware of current RFU regulations applicable to the women’s game
  • Specific responsibility as lead coach for the First XV squad on training evenings and match days, ensuring that all training sessions are focused and directed to maximise player development, intensity and enjoyment
  • Devise and implement clear feedback processes for evaluation of coaching sessions, post-match squad analysis and individual performance to be used by all squads.

  • Proactively seek to establish sustainable links with partner institutions to create and embed feeder pathways to support ongoing recruitment
  • Devise and implement a development plan for the women’s section past season one.
