Harlequins is excited to announce that they will welcome Richmond FC to The Twickenham Stoop to begin their 2019/20 Tyrrells Premier 15s campaign on Saturday 21st September (kick-off: 14:00).
Harlequins Women will take on their historic rivals, on the opening weekend of this season’s tournament – a re-run of the Club’s 2017/18 fixture which saw just over 4,500 supporters come to witness Quins edge a 14-12 victory.
This will be the third time that the two sides go head-to-head at The Stoop, with the home side looking to maintain their 100% winning record at the Home of Harlequins against their South-West London counterparts.
The fixture against Richmond will be the first of six scheduled matches at The Stoop for Harlequins Women during the 2019/20 season, including a double-header with the Men’s squad against Gloucester and standalone fixtures against Bristol Bears, Saracens Women, Loughborough Lightning and The Game Changer against Wasps FC Ladies on Saturday 11th April (kick-off: 15:00).
Harlequins Women Co-Head Coach Karen Findlay said: “Having the opportunity to begin our 2019/20 campaign at The Stoop is special, particularly as it is a local derby against Richmond. We have enjoyed some really good contests against them over the last two seasons, but The Stoop is our home turf. Playing there gives us an extra impetus to go out and really nail how we want to play the game and channel the yards everyone has made into performance.
“This group has gone from strength to strength over the summer. This is not just in terms of the successful player recruitment, which has brought in more international talent to add to our wider squad, but also in terms of continuing to deliver excellent training standards. The effort and commitment levels from the players and support staff for each other has really shone through and this reflects the culture, values and professionalism that is at heart of the set-up. This will help us achieve another excellent year.
“However, it is the supporters, on occasions such as these, that fuel the excitement and the rivalry. It’s their Quins passion and vocal presence that is the point of difference and truly inspires us to get out there and achieve great results.”
Harlequins Women second row Abbie Scott added: “Playing for a Club that can host matches at iconic stadia like The Stoop is a real honour and one that doesn’t fade with each passing season. We want to make sure we do it justice and put on a show for our incredible supporters.
“As a group, we were very disappointed with the way in which we finished the season last year and we owe it to ourselves to go one better in 2019/20.
“We have an exceptional group here and, as a team, we know that we can beat anyone on our day and that we must deliver outstanding performances when it matters. The new players that have come in over the summer have already bought into our collective philosophy and we can’t wait to get started.”
Tickets for all Harlequins Women matches to be played at The Stoop are now available to be purchased at tickets.quins.co.uk. Tickets for The Game Changer, which will go on sale at a later date.
