Australia and New Zealand qualify for World Cup semi-finals

Australia and New Zealand recorded commanding wins to qualify for the semi-finals of the Vitality Netball World Cup today.

Both sides have progressed through the competition unruffled so far, and that continued as New Zealand beat Northern Ireland 77-28 and Australia defeated Malawi 74-25. The two sides meet on Thursday morning in a match which will decide who tops Group F.

In the day’s final game, Zimbabwe continued their wonderful debut World Cup as precision shooting from Pauline Jani inspired them to a 66-41 win over Barbados.

Earlier in the day, Fiji and Samoa both recorded wins in Group E.

Northern Ireland 28-77 New Zealand (Group F)

Australia 74-25 Malawi (Group F)

Zimbabwe 66-41 Barbados (Group F)

Upcoming:

Group F now takes a short break, allowing the battle for semi-final places in Group G to come to the forefront tomorrow. England and South Africa could both rubber-stamp their last four spots with wins against Trinidad and Tobago and Uganda respectively tomorrow afternoon, while Scotland will take on Jamaica.

Group E concludes tomorrow morning, as Sri Lanka play Fiji and Singapore take on Samoa.
