Western Storm can today exclusively reveal that Freya Davies will once again be lining up for the reigning Kia Super League Champions in 2018.
Freya joins England trio Heather Knight, Anya Shrubsole and Fran Wilson plus Rachel Priest, Stafanie Taylor and Smriti Mandhana in this year’s Western Storm squad.
The 22-year-old played an important role in last year’s success, featuring in every match and claiming five wickets with a best of two for 24. She was also an ever-present in the 2016 campaign during which she took five wickets with a best of two for 33.
The fast bowler was also awarded a rookie contract by England Women earlier this year after impressing the senior management team with both her performances and attitude. This means that she has been able to spend more time training and working with the senior England squad at the National Cricket Performance Centre.
After announcing Freya’s signing Western Storm Head Coach, Trevor Griffin said: “Freya is one of the most exciting prospects in the game at the moment and her recognition by England is richly deserved. She is an outstanding professional both on and off the field and I am sure that she will play a big role for us in 2018. We are delighted that she will be playing for us again this season.”
Looking ahead to the 2018 KIA Super League Freya said: “Last year couldn’t really have gone better and winning the trophy was something that I will remember forever. We are all determined to retain our title, and everyone will be giving 100% to make sure that we do that.
“There will be twice as many matches this year, but we are looking forward to the challenge and hopefully we will be celebrating again at the end of the tournament.”
