Team Bath Netball’s Kadeen Corbin has strengthened her claim for Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games selection with two standout performances for England against Malawi Queens over the weekend.
England Head Coach Tracey Neville described Corbin’s shooting as “world-class” after her player-of-the-match display inspired the Roses to a hard-fought 66-60 victory over the tourists in Friday’s opening match.
Corbin was hugely influential once again on Sunday, on her 50th appearance for her country, as England took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the Vitality Netball International Series with a 61-53 success.
Friday’s fixture at the Copper Box Arena in London saw Corbin and former Team Bath shooter Rachel Dunn fire England into an 11-goal lead at the end of a blistering first quarter.
Malawi rallied and chipped away at the lead but, with five minutes of the third quarter remaining, Corbin was switched from GA to GS and helped England restore a ten-goal advantage before seeing out the win.
“Kadeen was an intelligent athlete in that game,” said Neville. “She led by example and her shooting was world class.”
Corbin had the honour of leading the team out in her 50th international appearance on Sunday and began the match in style with an excellent steal in the mid-court.
She again found the net with great regularity from all parts of the shooting circle as England led throughout and, after moving to GS for the second half, combined brilliantly with sister Sasha to secure the victory.
The series will conclude on Wednesday when England take on Malawi at the Genting Arena in Birmingham (7.45pm).
Corbin, who celebrates her 26th birthday today (Monday), will then return to Team Bath Netball as they continue their preparations for the 2018 Vitality Superleague season.
Home fans will have the first chance to see Corbin and her team-mates in Blue and Gold during a tri-tournament featuring 2017 champions Wasps and Severn Stars, taking place at the Team Bath Arena on Saturday, January 6.
Doors open at 1pm and there will be three matches on the day. Tickets are on sale now priced £10 for adults, £5 concessions, £20 for a family ticket and £4 for students.
