This year has seen another growth in junior players for East Leeds girls with fifty seven girls playing under the East Leeds badge in the U12s, U14s and U16s.
With opportunities for silverware still limited for junior female teams East Leeds U12s still managed to win the Leeds Rhinos Foundation Tournament with the U14s finishing 3rd in their age group.
The U12s this year have impressed week on week picking up their first win this season, winning the Leeds Rhinos Foundation Tournament and with numbers growing towards the end of the season.
The U14s squad included 75% of players that had never touched a rugby ball before, looked to be taking on too much at the start of the season with some heavy score lines put against them. But with continued training and hard work managed to fulfil their fixture list and surpassed expectations by only losing out on second place in Division 1 by points difference. An amazing achievement.
U16s struggled throughout the season with player availability 90% of games played with no subs but showed great heart and determination by being in most games up until the last 20 minutes when fatigue started to set in.
With nothing to play for collectively, individually it’s been a very successful season for the 16s with eight players making appearances for central Yorkshire and three players selected for the U19s Leeds Rhinos squad.
Hopefully next season three teams will become four with thirty players expressing an interest in playing summer open age for East Leeds ladies, which should then complete the pathway for junior female players at East Leeds.
In fact next season looks set to become even bigger in terms of numbers across the board, with 30 already showing an interest in the open age, 25 players for the U16s, 14 players for the U14s and six so far for the U12s.
East Leeds are always looking for new players of any ability and no experience necessary – all are welcome. If you are interested in becoming involved in this friendly club then please get in touch with either:
