Wilson, who has also been Assistant Coach to the Silver Ferns and Head Coach for ANZ side Queensland Firebirds, has a wealth of experience and will offer world class cover whilst Head Coach Karen Atkinson takes a short period of maternity leave.

Having reflected on previous seasons Atkinson wanted to ensure no stone was left unturned ahead of the new season and so has opted to call on Wilson’s expertise in January, perfect timing ahead of the recently bolstered Vitality Netball Super League kicking off one month later.

Speaking of Wilson’s arrival, Atkinson said: “I am extremely delighted that Vicki will be joining us for three weeks in late January, early February of 2017.  Her main focus will be to work with our shooting circle and feeders and build their knowledge, understanding and consistency.  Vicki was renowned for her accuracy under the post and ability to work the circle with exceptional court craft and game smarts.

“I am excited to see how the players improve under her guidance but also how we can learn as a support team and further our understanding by having a different outlook on the game.”

The Australian will also be spending some of her time working with the upcoming talent in the area including the Loughborough University Netball Programme, Lightning NPL and Training Academies and Regional Programmes.

In addition, Wilson will be the key presenter at Loughborough Lightning’s inaugural Coaching Conference at the end of January, allowing coaches from all over the UK to gain some valuable knowledge from a world-renowned international coach.

Atkinson continued: “It will be a phenomenal opportunity for all of the players within our Loughborough Lightning, Loughborough University and East Midlands’ regional pathways to experience something completely different from someone who has plied their trade all over the world.  I truly believe this will have a fantastic impact on netball players across the East Midlands.”

Of the opportunity to come to the Northern hemisphere and coach at Loughborough University, one of the best sport universities in the world, Wilson commented:

“Working with the Loughborough Lightning and Loughborough University Netball Programmes is a great opportunity to work with talented players and coaches in England.  As a coach you always have a thirst for gaining greater insights to help your athletes become the best they can be and with this in mind I will be seeking out the knowledge of some of the finest support staff in the UK system.”
