Chelsea Ladies battled hard, putting on a good performance yesterday in the return leg of their Champions League draw against VFL Wolfsburg.
A sloppy back pass allowed Eni Aluko in to open the scoring and shortly afterwards they should have gone two up when Karen Carney hit the woodwork. As it was Wolfsburg equalised to give them a 4-1 win and put them through to the last sixteen.
Coming back from a 3-0 deficit was always going to be a tough ask, but last night Chelsea showed that they are able to compete at the highest level and the experience will be invaluable.
Manchester City women had no such problems they took a 2-0 advantage into their fixture against Zvezda 2005 and scored four more to make it a 6-0 win in Russia.
