Pentathlon GB’s Youth A Team head to Spain

  • +1

The final international competition before this summer’s Olympic Games takes place this week with the Youth A European Championships in Sant Boi, Barcelona.

Pentathlon GB are sending an 8 strong team to Spain including 6 athletes that competed at the Youth A World Championships in Limerick earlier this month.

The Youth A team secured 5 top 10 finishes at the World Championships with Olivia Green finishing 5th and Myles Pillage 9th in the individual competitions. In the relays, Green and Pillage teamed up to finish 6th in the Mixed Relay with Bradley Sutton and Josh Miller matching their performance in the Men’s Relay and Kerenza Bryson and Georgia Hannam finishing 7th in the Women’s Relay after a consistent day across all four disciplines.

The only changes to that World Championships team see Weymouth’s Zoe Gowers and Romsey’s George Budden replace Sophie Whitehead and Bradley Sutton.

Gowers, who finished 4th and 6th at the two National Youth Ranking Competitions earlier this year, will be joined in the Girls’ team by Green, Bryson and Hannam. Budden, who finished 2nd in the U19 British Modern Pentathlon Championships last month, joins Pillage, Harry Sykes and Miller in the Boys’ team.

All 8 athletes will compete in the individual competitions with Women’s Qualifying getting the Championships underway tomorrow (27th July). The week will conclude with the Mixed Relay on Sunday.

The competition will be a modern tetrathlon with the disciplines of swimming, fencing and a combined run-shoot.
