Sprinter Sophie Kamlish finished just outside the medal places when she contested the T44 100m final at the IPC World Athletics Championships in Doha on Thursday.
The 19-year-old, coached by Rob Ellchuk at the University of Bath, ran the second-fastest time of 13.53 in the morning’s semi-finals as she finished runner-up to defending champion Marlou van Rhijn.
The Dutch runner went on to beat her own world record as she won the final in 12.80 and silver went to Marie-Amelie Le Fur of France, who has already won T44 400m and long jump gold this week.
Kamlish was well placed at 50m after getting off to a strong start but was run out of the medals in the closing stages and finished fifth in 13.51, with bronze going to Nyoshia Cain of Trinidad & Tobago.
Kamlish is the second member of Ellchuk’s training group to represent Britain in Doha this week, with Paul Blake having won T36 800m gold and 400m silver.
