Tammy Beaumont to captain England Women’s Academy squad in 2-day match against Australia women

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) today announced a 13-player England Women’s Academy (EWA) squad to play a one-off 2-day match against Australia women on Saturday 1st – Sunday 2nd August, at the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough.

Three of the England women’s squad that played in the recent Women’s Ashes Royal London One-Day Internationals – Georgia Elwiss (Sussex), Amy Jones (Warwickshire) and Laura Marsh (Kent) – have been included, and the side will be led by Kent’s Tammy Beaumont.

All of the players will be looking to put in strong performances ahead of the announcement of the England women’s squad to play in the Women’s Ashes Kia Test match, which will happen next week.

Following the conclusion of the 2-day fixture, a combined England Women’s Academy/Surrey boys’ XI will play a 3-day match against Australia women at the County Ground, Beckenham from Wednesday 5th to Friday 7th August.

Commenting on the squad and the fixtures, England Women’s Academy Head Coach, Lisa Keightley said: “These two matches represent an excellent opportunity for this group of players to develop their multi-day cricket skills.”

“Australia have demonstrated what a strong side they are in the recent Women’s Ashes Royal London ODIs, however we have been able to select a very experienced squad for the 2-day match at the National Cricket Performance Centre this weekend, so I expect a really good game of cricket.  In particular, I’m sure that Tammy Beaumont and Fran Wilson will be hoping to continue their form against the Australians – after they both scored half centuries for the Academy against them in the 50-over warm-up match in Taunton earlier this month.”

The Women’s Ashes Kia Test match between England and Australia will be played at the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence (Canterbury) from Tuesday 11th to Friday 14th August.  Four points will be awarded to the winner of the Test match and two points will be awarded to each side in the event of a draw.  For the first time in the history of television broadcast, Sky Sports will provide live ball-by-ball coverage of the Kia Women’s Test match.
