Germany scored first in this close encounter with a goal from Nina Ehegötz, but England fought back and equalised through Gabrielle George. England continued to press but just as it looked as if the game would end in a draw Rebecca Knaak’s 87th-minute goal gave Germany the win.
England have to re-group now as they face Spain in their second group match on 18th July (Saturday).
