Five medals and an all Team Bath final at 2015 British Judo Open

  • +1

There was an all Team Bath final at the 2015 British Judo Open, which took place in the SSE Arena, Wembley over the weekend.

Gemma Howell and Megan Fletcher (pictured above) usually fight in different weight categories but both were entered in the -70kg competition this time, and they both progressed to the final, where they produced – in the words of coach Juergen Klinger – “a fantastic fight, very open and very fast”.

It went all the way to the third minute of golden score before a penalty against Fletcher saw Howell take the gold.

Tom Reed faced British rival Owen Livesey in the -81kg final – the fourth time in six months they had clashed in a gold-medal bout.

After an intense opening two minutes, Livesey threw Reed for waza-ari before following up with a yuko to take the honours on this occasion.

Ben Fletcher and Adam Hall both had to settle for bronze in the -100kg category, while there were fifth-placed finishes for Gregg Varey (-66kg) and Ashley Mathias (-90kg).
