England put in a mighty team performance last night to surge into the Women’s World Cup Semi Finals for the first time since – well since ever.
Jodie Taylor capitalised on a defensive error to open the scoring after just 11 minutes and Lucy Bronze headed home just three minutes later to effectively quieten the 50,000 odd very partisan crowd. Despite an epic effort from Sinclair, who pulled one back just before half time Canada lost out to an England team playing their hearts out.
To a woman this England squad have been immense, it doesn’t matter if the crowd are against them, or they get poor decisions, they have quietly gone about their business and clearly are loving every minute of this competition – so good to see the passion, emotion, togetherness and plain enjoyment of this team as they rise to each challenge thrown their way. Let’s hope they have two more matches in which so show us exactly what they are capable of, but for now the little matter of title holders Japan on Wednesday. Good luck Lionesses – we are with you all the way.
