England are through to their first Semi Final of a World Cup tournament with a 2-1 win over hosts Canada. Jodie Taylor and Lucy Bronze hit early to stun Canada and silence the crowd although Sinclair scored just before half time to reduce the deficit and give the home side some hope.
In the other tie Japan beat a battling Australian side by 1-0. Japan had dominated but Australian defence was determined and the goal coming late was a heart-breaker. Japan the only side to go into the the semi finals having won all their games.
France and Germany kicked off the Quarter Finals in a pulsating tie dominated by France, it was hard to believe at half time that the score was still 0-0. In the second half it was more of the same and eventually Necib scored. Germany equalised from the spot in a controversial penalty decision (not the first poor decision on the night) and although France still had the better chances to win the game it was still all square after extra time. France were without doubt the better team on the night but failed to take their chances, and football is indeed a cruel game.
Next up for Germany is the USA who beat China 1-0 with a stunning header from Carli Lloyd on 51 minutes.
The Quarter Final results as follows:
Game 45 China 0-1 USA (Lloyd 51′)
Game 46 Germany 1-1 France (Germany win 5-4 on penalties after goals from France: Necib 64′ and Germany Sasic 84′ P)
Game 47 Australia 0-1 Japan (Iwabuchi 87′)
Game 48 England 2-1 Canada (England:Taylor 11′, Bronze 14′) (Canada: Sinclair: 42′)
