English Lacrosse is pleased to announce that Alex Mackenzie-Smith has been appointed as the new senior Team England Manager.
The appointment was announced by National Talent Development Manager Jane Powell: “I am delighted to welcome Alex to the role of Team Manger for the England Women’s team – she may be young in years but her passion, enthusiasm and organisational skills are exactly what this role needs. Her geographical knowledge and her connections with SSP (Surrey Sports Park) will really help us to develop a working relationship which will stand us in good stead for the World Cup in 2017.”
English Lacrosse caught up with Alex to find out more about her lacrosse background and why she is best placed to take the helm as the new Team England manager with her past experience studying and working at the University of Surrey and Surrey Sports Park, especially with the 2017 FIL Rathbones Women’s Lacrosse World Cup now on the horizon.
Alex said, “I started playing lacrosse when I joined Queen Annes School, Caversham and continued throughout my time at University. Having started the club at the University of Surrey and managed it for nearly 4 years, I feel my experience of this will significantly aid me in making my role for Team England a success.”
“I spent a year working for Surrey Sports Park in events and have built great relationships with the staff. With the build up to 2017, these relationships will be vital in making sure events and training run smoothly and Team England can have access to the best facilities possible.”
“To be appointed Team England Manager is a fantastic opportunity for me. I feel honoured to work alongside a very talented group of athletes as well as a dedicated team of coaches in the build up to a World Cup on home turf. I am looking forward to working with all the English Lacrosse staff to raise the profile of not only the players but the sport as a whole.”
Alex and Team England have a busy year ahead of them, with the Home Internationals in March and the 2015 ELF European Championships in the Czech Republic later on in the year. English Lacrosse wishes Alex the best of luck in the role and look forward to working closely with her and the team to ensure England have home advantage in 2017.
