Despite a bright start against Israel on the opening night of the U20 European Championship Women Division B, there was disappointment in store for Great Britain as they slipped to a 71-48 defeat.
New head coach, Karen Burton had been hoping for a winning start and it looked like she might be on track after her team posted a scorching first quarter in Podgorica.
However, the early pace faded as Israel quickly recovered and got onto the front foot.
GB had wasted little time in finding some rhythm early and streaked into a 20-13 lead after the opening 10 minutes, thanks to seven quick-fire point from centre, Hannah Peacock.
But, as Israel changed their defensive approach it proved fruitful for them as they restricted GB to only six points during the second period.
Having also rattled off the first nine points of the period, Israel were in the ascendency and 30-26 in front at the interval.
When the action resumed, a quick triple from Bethany Sarson looked like sparking GB back into the lead, but Israel put their foot on the accelerator and opened up a double-digit advantage at 45-35.
GB did respond positively with scores from Georgia Elliott-King, Mollie Campbell and Peacock reducing the gap to just five points at 49-44 ahead of the final quarter.
Unfortunately the wheels then came off as Israel finished the game with a rampant 22-4 final period to take the victory.
Hannah Peacock top scored with 15 points and added seven rebounds, while Robyn Lewis of Leicester Riders added an all action five points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals.
