This weekend there were five fixtures in the Women’s League, the first of which saw Leigh Miners host Normanton Knights, it was a tough day for the home side as they lost out 4-44 to a determined Normanton side.
Leigh Miners Mairead Quinn scored the hosts only try and 18 year old Rachel Stott celebrated her birthday with a player of the match performance. Normanton were clinical throughout at the try scoring charts for the afternoon was topped by player of the match Hayley Fielding. There were further tries for Katie Hepworth, Maisie Birdsall, Lucy Eastwood and Sephora Avalone. Katie Hepworth added 6 goals to complete the win for Normanton.
Bradford Thunderbirds were at home to Stanningley Ladies and in a tight match the home side held out for the win 40-34.
Brighouse Ladies travelled away to Oulton and the travelling side dug deep to card a 24-10 win.
Thatto Heath St Helens welcomed Wigan St Patricks and produced a superb display to earn a 46-0 win. Tara Stanley amassed an impressive points total for the match with 4 tries and 5 goals to her name. Further tries for Thatto came courtesy of Rachel Thompson, Shannon Smith, Naomi Williams, Dani Bound and Alex Simpson.
The final match of the weekend saw Hunslet Hawks host West Craven Warriors, once more home advantage won out with the Hunslet winning 26-18.
Hunslet’s Lindsey Kitching crossed the whitewash twice in her debut game and there were further tries for Amy Allen, Sarah Barford and Jacqueline Sedgwick the latter of whom also scored 3 goals. West Craven battled hard throughout with Katie Doney scoring a hat-rick of tries and one goals and Abby Pearson also scored once for the away side.
