‘Sparks’ Beat ‘Stars’ By Wide Margin

‘Central Sparks Women’ vs ‘SE Stars W’ at New Road, Worcester on 12 September (Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy –round 6)

*‘Sparks’ were 67/0 after 10 ov., at which point skipper Eve Jones (39 runs from 38 balls) was caught behind from Ryana Macdonald-Gay (2/31.) At the 100 ball benchmark (16.4 ov) ‘Sparks’ were 92/1. Next over, Marie Kelly (24) was caught by Alice Davidson-Richards, off Phoebe Franklin. ‘Sparks’ reached 131/3 by half-way.

*’Sparks’ lost 2 pairs of wickets during consecutive overs. Firstly, skipper Bryony Smith’s first ball snared Thea Brookes (33) ‘leg before.’ After a crowd-pleasing ‘six’ from Issy Wong followed by a single, Ria Fackrell was caught behind from the skipper’s last ball.

*A second pair of wickets fell during Kalea Moore’s over when Chloe Hill (1) was ‘run out’ by Aylish Cranstone and Issy Wong (11) was clean-bowled by Moore.

*Bowling her final four overs, Alice Davidson-Richards took wickets with her first and last balls, her first ball clean-bowling Clare Boycott (15.) 9 ‘dot’ balls later, Davidson-Richards clean-bowled Georgia Davis (13) with the 1st ball of her ‘death’ over. At that point, ‘Sparks’ were 229 all out, 5 balls short of their 50 ov. quota.

*‘Stars’ lost skipper Bryony Smith (16) caught by Issy Wong, after striking Wong for 3 ‘fours;’ the 1st of Georgia Davis’ 4 wickets. After 8 overs power-play, ‘Stars’ were 28/1. Alice Davidson-Richards wicket fell to the same Wong-Davis combination, during the 10th over (31/2.)

*At 100 balls (16.4 ov) ‘Stars’ had fallen at least 30 runs behind on 60/3. Before reaching the mid-way point, ‘Stars’ faced a mid-order batting collapse following Aylish Cranstone’s departure ‘run out.’

*Ria Fackrell’s 1st over claimed teenage superstar Alice Capsey (26) ‘leg beore’ 1st ball; followed by Emma Jones for a 2nd ball duck, ‘clean bowled’ by Ria Fackrell 3 balls later.

*Ria Fackrell’s 2nd ov. took a 3rdwicket.

*Next ball, Georgia Davis took another wicket as Phoebe Franklin (7) was caught behind. 2 overs later, Davis trapped Ryana Macdonald-Gay ‘leg before’ for a 4th ball duck. At which point after 30 overs, ‘Sparks’ were confident of a win. ‘Stars’ faced inevitable defeat with 20 overs remaining.
