  • +1

Sunrisers Women’ vs ‘Southern Vipers W’ at Chelmsford on 12 September (Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy – round 6)

Even before a solitary ball was bowled, table-topping ‘Vipers’ seemed assured of a win against wooden spoon favourites ‘Sunrisers.’ Add experienced England players into the equation and today’s match produced an incredible game. Both Georgia Elwiss (‘Vipers’) and Fran Wilson (‘Sunrisers’) were overdue for big scores. With a cliff-hanger ending, the match outcome was ironically decided by Fran Wilson needing to hit ‘six’ from Georgia Elwiss’ last ball. Wilson did well to score ‘four.’ POTM Elwiss snatched a memorable ‘Vipers’ victory by one solitary run.

*Elwiss made 112*runs (from 118 balls) having earlier staged a century partnership with skipper Georgia Adams (50) who was once again ‘caught behind,’ having just chalked-up her ‘fifty.’

*‘Vipers’ were 53/1 after 10 ov., 89/2 at 100 balls (16.4 ov); 137/2 by half-way. After 40 overs (238/5), Georgia Elwiss remained at the crease on 78* on her way to a ‘ton’. During the final 10 overs, ‘Vipers’ continued to score at a rate of 6 runs-per-over (strike rate 100) losing 4 tail-enders for single figures but closing on 309/9.

*Faced with a mountainous score, ‘Sunrisers’ made another slow start, scoring just 3 ‘fours’ with 44 ‘dot’ balls from the first 10 overs at 3-to-4 runs-per-over. ‘Sunrisers’ made 50 without loss during the 14th over (63/0 at the 100 ball/ 16.4 ov. benchmark).

*’Sunrisers’ scoring rate accelerated as opener Cordelia Griffith (as top-scorer), hit 91 runs from 82 balls, before trapped ‘leg before’ by Lauren Bell’s pace.

*Alice Macleod (79) partnered by Fran Wilson added 60 runs for ‘Sunrisers’’ 3rd wicket.

*With a cliff-hanger ending, the match outcome was ironically decided by Fran Wilson needing to hit ‘six’ from Georgia Elwiss’ final ball. Wilson did well to score ‘four.’ ‘Vipers’ were handed victory by one run.
