On Sunday 21 October the Women’s Rugby League Winter League springs into action this year with more teams than ever as the growth in the women’s game continues.
This season 19 teams will be competing, which is great news for the Winter League and for grass roots rugby.
WRLA Chairman Steve Manning said: “This Sunday will see the opening games of the Active Workwear WRLA Winter League for the 2018/19 season which this year weather permitting gives us a six months playing window culminating with our Easter Sunday Cup and Plate Finals which falls on the 21st April.
“This season we have seventeen teams competing in the league, a nine team Premier Division with a bye for one club each week, Division 1 which comprises of eight clubs including a number new youthful sides with players who played in this year’s Under 16’s girls league. There are two new sides that are just playing friendlies this season.
“We also have our cup competitions, as I have mentioned, and County of Origin 8 which once again will be part of the BARLA Yorkshire Cup Final double header on Saturday 30th December at Featherstone Rovers RLFC.
“Our promise as it is every year is for sides to play games every week and not to try and find excuses for not playing, as that is the reason for them joining us. As every year we cross our fingers that the weather Gods will be kind to us.”
