Yeovil Town Ladies clinched promotion on Sunday with a 2-0 win over the London Bees.

Yeovil Town travelling fans
Yeovil went into the match knowing that they had to win one of their last two matches to be certain of promotion to WSL1 for the first time and in truth the first half of the match the pressure to achieve showed on the team. They lacked composure and mistakes led to a lot of pressure from the Bees who despite dominating possession were unable to capitalise as they set out to thwart Yeovil ambition.
The Lady Glovers were thankful to defender Helen Bleazard for two goal line clearances before Charlotte Haynes Town’s keeper had to make a finger-tip save to further frustrate the Bees and keep the score at 0-0.
It wasn’t until the 56th minute when Kayleigh Green, defender turned striker, put the Lady Glovers ahead and it was no more than they deserved as they had looked a different side in the second half.
The goal both calmed and buoyed the Yeovil team and they pressed with more fluency finally culminating in their second goal just ten minutes from time, this one scored by substitute Nadia Lawrence.
The win put Yeovil back on top of the WSL2 league, on goal difference, and they go into their final game of the season against Sheffield aiming to finish their season on a high with a win, the title and promotion. It will be a tremendous achievement for the Club whose Chairman, Steve Allinson has really built something special, with a terrific team both on and off the pitch.
The travelling support for Yeovil were immense on Sunday and it must have felt like a home game for the players and must equally have been a little daunting for the Bees players.
Meanwhile Bees last game of the season is against Everton at home and they will be hoping to reverse the result from the away fixture when Everton beat them 5-1.
Bees are a young side with some very good players and they will be looking forward to next season when they can build on their mid-table finish.
