Ireland go big

  • +1

It’s excellent news that the IRFU has agreed to stage a women’s Six Nations game at the Aviva Stadium Dublin for the first time.

They have chosen the Scotland fixture on Sunday 17 May 2026 (KO 14.00).

They join Scotland in making their national stadium available for next season, adding more allure to the tournament.

The organisers have been encouraged by the size and enthusiasm of crowds at the current RWC.

Irish voices have been calling for this move for a long while. Now it is happening.

That leaves only France and Italy unable or unwilling to join the trend.

As the RFU and WRU have shown, it takes some courage to jump from club grounds with capacities of rarely more than 15,000 to national arenas of many times that size.

We can take this news as one piece in that valuable treasure-chest, legacy. World Rugby and the RWC organisers can already view the England 2025 version as a triumph.

Now it’s vital to ensure its success is exploited. That’s a trickier business.
