Hampshire Hawks (women) vs Lancashire Thunder (women) (match 42, league one – ‘stand-alone’ fixture) at Falkland CC Newbury, on Wednesday 9 July 2025 (14h00)
Thunder women chalked-up their sixth win from eleven matches played-to-date, now with realistic hopes to finish the group stage as ‘one of the top-three to qualify for the semi-finals. Thunder women proved to have the stronger batting line-up to chase down their run deficit to win on a ‘batter’s wicket.’ With both teams affected by absences from ‘England call-ups,’ disaster struck the hosts after just six balls, when world-cup winning guest Australian Ellyse Perry was ‘run-out’ by Tara Norris, during her first over. Hawks’ century batting partnership between Freya Kemp [63(from 43 balls)] and Abi Norgrove 54(from 35 balls) ensured Hawks closed with a decent defendable score of 174. Carrying three wickets advantage for most of the match, Emma Lamb [66*not out(from 45 balls)] made top-score from two key batting partnerships and carried her bat. Seren Smale (pictured) 42(30) continued after Eve Jones 42(29) departed. Thereafter, Scots international Ailsa Lister scored Thunder women’s winning ‘four.’ Weather: hot and sunny.
