The winners of the Barclays Women’s Championship awards for February have now been confirmed, with a hat-trick of success for table toppers Birmingham City across all three categories.
Firstly, Blues’ defender Shannon Cooke was voted as Player of the Month by a combination of a panel and public vote, with her proving her quality at both ends of the pitch during February.
Michaela Foster (Durham), Isobel Goodwin (London City Lionesses) and Molly Pike (Southampton) were also in contention, but Cooke emerged victorious overall.
Helping the league leaders to two clean sheets against Sunderland and Sheffield United – with both games ending in a 1-0 victory for the St Andrew’s outfit – she also found the back of the net in the meeting with the Blades.
That effort meanwhile ensured that Cooke also secured the Goal of the Month accolade, with her sublime effort from just inside the opposition’s half nestling into the top corner.
She saw off the challenge of Beth Hepple, Charlotte Newsham, Michaela Foster, Molly Pike and Shania Hayles to make it successive double-award winning months within the division’s Player and Goal categories for Birmingham.
Finally, the League Managers’ Association have announced that the Midlands’ outfit’s Head Coach Amy Merricks (pictured above) had been voted Barclays Women’s Championship Manager of the Month for February by a panel of Faye White, Mo Marley MBE, Brent Hills, Jen O’Neill, Alan Curbishley, and Mollie Kmita.
