The winners of the Barclays Women’s Championship awards for October have now been confirmed.
Firstly, Sheffield United’s Maria Farrugia has been named as Player of the Month after emerging victorious in the combined public and panel vote.
Scoring three goals in as many league games, including a brace in a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers and a solo effort against Bristol City, Farrugia saw off the challenge of London City Lionesses’ Isobel Goodwin, Birmingham City’s Neve Herron and Bristol City’s Lexi Lloyd-Smith to take the award.
The Maltese international also made it a double success however after scooping the Goal of the Month accolade for her aforementioned strike against Bristol City.
Farrugia’s effort came out on top in the vote, beating teammate Ellen Molloy (v Birmingham City), Bristol City’s Lexi Lloyd-Smith (v Sheffield United) and Emily Syme (v Blackburn Rovers), London City Lionesses’ Isobel Goodwin (v Portsmouth), Newcastle United’s Beth Lumsden (v Sunderland) and Charlton Athletic’s Katie Bradley (v Newcastle United) to the award.
Elsewhere, the League Managers’ Association announced last week that Birmingham City’s Amy Merricks had been voted Barclays Women’s Championship Manager of the Month for October by a panel of Faye White, Mo Marley MBE, Brent Hills, Jen O’Neill, Alan Curbishley, and Mollie Kmita.
The Blues secured nine points over the course of three games during October to move from third position to the top of the Barclays Women’s Championship table entering November, defeating Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield United and Southampton along the way.
With thanks to the FA
