Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy – match 41 – Sunrisers vs Diamonds

  • +1

Sunrisers vs Northern Diamonds at Chelmsford (The Cloud County Ground, Essex) on 26 August 2024

Sunrisers chalked-up their sixth victory taking third-place from South East Stars with superior net-run-rate. Skipper Grace Scrivens’ fifty guided Sunrisers to victory over a depleted Diamonds side, without power-hitters Lauren-Winfield-Hill or Bess Heath. Despite facing 37 ‘dot’ balls during Diamonds’ power play, openers Katherine Fraser and Emma Marlow did well to post 47/1. Sterre Kalis played anchor with top-score. Beyond mid-way, Diamonds batters faced 90 ‘dot’ balls. When ‘eight Diamonds wickets fell for 101 runs,’ commentators noted a ‘mini collapse.’ Between innings, Sunrisers were ‘delighted’ that Mady Villiers ‘spin’ had taken a 4-fer (on her birthday); and Sophie Munro’s ‘seam’ had taken a 3-fer. Sunrisers’ decisive reply saw skipper Grace Scrivens make top-score with ‘fifty,’ adding sixty runs firstly partnered by Cordelia Griffith; then adding another sixty with Jodi Grewcock. Match reached its climax when Lissy MacLeod scored ‘four’ for tied scores, followed by a ‘single’ to bag a comfortable Sunrisers’ victory with twelve overs to spare. Sunrisers are well-placed to qualify for their first semi-finals with three remaining rounds to play. Commentators were Kevin Hand (Commentator and sports Journalist) with Danni Warren (Performance Director at Middlesex Cricket, representing Sunrisers.) Weather was described as ‘glorious’ for cricket: hot and sunny 25C.
