Harlequins are delighted to confirm the signing of Welsh International and GB 7s Olympian Kayleigh Powell ahead of the 2024/25 PWR season.
Powell joins Quins following a successful stint representing GB 7s on the World Sevens Series, including most recently at this week’s Paris Olympics. The versatile back has joined the Club on a full-time contract and will return to 15s on a permanent basis.
A product of Llantrisant RFC, Powell made her Test debut for Wales against Ireland in 2019 and has achieved 16 caps for her country. The former Bristol Bears player represented Wales at the 2022 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, and most recently throughout the 2024 Six Nations.
Commenting on her signing, Powell said: “I’m really excited to be joining Quins. The Club is renowned for its history and success in women’s rugby, and I can’t wait to join my new teammates and help Quins return to the top of the PWR. I’m looking forward to pulling on the Quarters and calling The Stoop my home.”
Head Coach Ross Chisholm added: “Kayleigh is a fantastic signing for our Club. She’s a skilful and exciting player who brings a wealth of international experience and quality to our squad. She is strong in both attack and defence and is dangerous with ball in hand. We’re excited to see what Kayleigh can achieve in Quins colours this season.”
The signing of Kayleigh Powell follows last week’s announcement that Bristol Bears and GB 7s player Grace Crompton has also joined the Club.
The 22-year-old, who was a member of the Harlequins Centre of Excellence, joins the Club after representing GB 7s at the Paris Olympics alongside Kayleigh Powell and fellow Quins Ellie Kildunne, Heather Cowell and Lauren Torley.
With thanks to Harlequins
