The British Olympic Association (BOA) has today named the six shooters who will represent Team GB at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Seonaid McIntosh, Britain’s most successful female rifle shooter of all time, returns to Team GB for her second Games after Tokyo 2020. The 28-year-old is a World Champion and triple European Champion.
McIntosh is joined by Amber Rutter, a World Champion and four-time European champion, who has made it into the squad, less than two months after giving birth in April.
Lucy Hall completes the women’s squad travelling to Paris, with the 20-year-old set to compete in her first Games, after her silver medal at the 2022 European Championships, which she followed with a World Cup gold medal a year later, her first senior championship title.
In the men’s Olympic Trap event, Matt Coward-Holley, who secured a bronze medal at Tokyo 2020 in his first Games appearance, competes alongside Nathan Hales who is currently ranked number two in the world. Hales will make his Olympic debut this summer, having broken the trap world record at the World Cup in 2023.
Completing the lineup is Michael Bargeron, who holds a master’s degree in physics and astronomy, and will be the first British male to compete for Team GB in an Olympic rifle event since London 2012.
Team GB Chef de Mission Mark England, OBE said: “We are thrilled to have such an impressive team of shooters representing Team GB in Paris this summer. It is brilliant to have Matt, Seonaid and Amber with us for their second Olympic Games, and we welcome Mike, Nathan and Lucy to Team GB, all of whom bring a tremendous wealth of quality into this squad. A special congratulations to Amber who became a mother just a few months ago on her selection to the team.
“This group of athletes are truly remarkable, both in and out of competition, and we have great confidence they can demonstrate their quality once again in Paris.”
Shooting Team Leader, Steven Seligmann, said: “I am delighted that the BOA have confirmed the selection of our six shooting athletes to represent Team GB at Paris 2024.
“It’s always a special moment when the team is announced, and every athlete should be extremely proud to be heading to Paris for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. All six athletes continue to go on their own incredible journeys, and we are excited to see our team, which is full of potential, perform at the Games.
“This is an exciting group of athletes, and we have immense confidence in all of them. They’ve all secured their quota place in their own right, demonstrating significant performances on the world stage and they’re going into the Games in a really strong place. I’m very proud of the athletes, their coaches and support teams who have worked tirelessly to ensure we are prepared to fulfil everyone’s potential and embrace what is going to be an amazing Games in France.”
The shooting competition will take place from 27 July to 5 August at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre, 140 miles south of Paris.
A total of 15 different shooting medal events will take place at these Games. The 10m air rifle, 50m rifle 3 positions, 10m air pistols and skeet shooting will include women’s, men’s and mixed team events. The trap event will include men’s and women’s events, while the 25m rapid fire pistol will only feature a men’s event, and the 25m pistol event will only have a women’s event.
