Charlotte Edwards Cup 2024 – match 15 – Diamonds vs Stars

  • +1
Northern Diamonds vs South East Stars at Chester-le-Street, Durham (The Riverside) on 31 May 2024 @14h30

Stars won by a comfortable margin of six wickets. Skipper Bryony Smith made top-score with ‘fifty’ [57*not out (from 41 balls)] and carried her bat. By comparison, for Diamonds, it became a ‘bad day at the office’ when 88/0 quickly became 124 All-Out. A procession of batters departed for single-figures and only two batters made double-figures. Commentators helpfully clarified that before ‘causing chaos’ among Diamonds tail-enders by taking a ‘hat-trick,’ England u-19 star bowler Tilly Corteen-Coleman [5-fer (5/19)] had previously taken a wicket from the last ball of over 18 another two wickets taken next-over counted as a hat-trick. That became a ‘double hat-trick’ when taking another wicket with her next ball. Enthused commentators were keen to point out that the ‘double’ aspect of the ‘hat-trick’ should not be ignored. Separately, Tilly Corteen-Coleman’s took a 3-fer versus Australia, during England u-19’s tri-nation tour of Sri Lanka (March) First-time commentators were Toby Reynolds (Sports journalist) with Ash Thorpe and Rachel Hopkins (Durham Cricket Academy.) Weather: cloudy with patches of blue sky 15-18C.
