  • +1

Western Storm vs South East Stars at Taunton, (at The Cooper Associates County Ground, Somerset) on 1 May (10h30 start delayed to 11h45)

Speaking post-match, England veteran Fran Wilson (pictured) told reporters that Storm batters knew they were capable to ‘pull-off’ a good win, in a rain-affected match. By mid-way (22 overs) Storm’s were 20 runs behind, bolstered by a 131-run partnership between Fran Wilson and skipper Sophie Luff. As Storm’s top-scorer with 65 runs (from 61 balls) Fran Wilson added that bowlers had expected the ball ’to move around a bit.’ Earlier in the match, 3 Stars’ batters scored ‘fifties,’ setting Storm a daunting 300-run target. A lower target emerged once more were overs docked by inclement weather. Australian Amanda-Jade Wellington ‘hit a few sixes,’ added a quick-fire 33 runs with Natasha Wraith in 21 balls. As heavy rain returned the match ended prematurely. Storm were declared winners by a wafer-thin three-run margin (‘Duckworth-Lewis-Stern’ method.) Lead commentator was Ed ‘cricket’ Seabourne. Weather ‘grey and overcast’ with ball-towelling.
