It’s quite excellent news that AWH is returning to 15s rugby and helping to strengthen Ealing Trailfinders’ chances.
She has been an England and GB 7s stand-by for many seasons, holding England‘s try-scoring record, but she has an equally distinguished history of 15s’ caps going back a decade.
She offers her new (and old) coach, Giselle Mather, important options on the field. She is most familiar as a winger, but has experience as an outside-centre where she appeared quite a few times for Wasps.
I suspect I am right in claiming that Trailfinders will be now the only club in the country to boast two England wingers who are also graduates in engineering. I’ll let you guess the other one.
Giselle Mather’s fountain-pen has been busy over the past ten days. It has helped sign up Ellie Lennon (Wasps), Shannon Ikahihifo (Auckland), Alex Zdunek (Richmond and Saracens), Megan Brodie (Quins via Ulster U18s), Amanda McQuade (Ireland 6N squad 2022), Sophie Shams (DMP and Saracens), Sara Seye (Italy) and Julia Schell (Canada).
Trailfinders’ build-up to full strength has been in stark contrast to the other newcomers, Leicester Tigers, who posted their full squad earlier this month.
Can there be more surprises in the pipe-line?
