Harlequins are pleased to announce back-row Katy Mew has agreed a new contract with the Club ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Now into her sixth season with the Club, Mew first joined Harlequins in 2018 having begun her rugby career at Havant RFC on the South Coast. Mew quickly established herself as a physical threat in the Harlequins pack, able to cover all positions across the back-row.
Known for her powerful carries and work rate in defence, Mew played every minute of Harlequins victorious 2021 Allianz Premier 15s Final against Saracens.
Commenting on her signing, Mew said: “I am very grateful to have renewed my contract with Quins. This is a great squad to be part of and I am excited to see where we can go. It was a frustrating end to the season through my hip injury but I can’t wait to get through my rehab and hit the ground running in the Famous Quarters.”
Technical Director Brent Janse van Rensburg, said: “Mewy is a real quality human, very dependable, hard working and contributes immensely to our group. She is tough and sets out to make the physical exchanges personal.
“We are thrilled that we will continue to see her wear the Quarters and look forward to supporting her in every way through her injury rehab, welcoming her back to the pitch as soon as possible.”
Katy Mew is the latest player to commit to Harlequins, alongside new signings Aseza Hele, Shaunagh Brown and Connie Powell, as well as Red Roses Lagi Tuima, Ellie Kildunne, Emily Scott and Lucy Packer.
Further announcements are scheduled over the coming weeks which will continue to underline the Club’s plan to develop the strongest women’s rugby programme in the Northern Hemisphere.
With thanks to Harlequins
