The annual tournament, which has been running for almost 80 years, got underway at the Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre and will see over 3,000 girls aged 11-19 playing for almost 200 teams across the four days of play.

This weekend sees the Under 19 competition taking place, featuring some of the country’s best young talent with English, Welsh, and Scottish junior internationals all on show, while Monday and Tuesday see the age group competitions in play, from U13 through to U15s.

The competition represents one of the biggest festivals of school sport in the country and is one of the flagship events in the domestic lacrosse calendar.

216 matches were played during Saturday’s opening day of competition, as the teams vied for qualification into the Championship Last 16 on Sunday where one school will be crowned champions for 2022.

Wycombe Abbey School will be looking to retain their Under 19 title after overcoming Benenden School 4-0 in the 2020 Under 19 final.

Mark Coups, England Lacrosse Chief Executive, said: “It’s just fantastic to see everyone back competing at one of the first major national lacrosse competitions to take place since 2020.

“We have so many girls here participating and enjoying themselves over the four days of competition and I’m thrilled to see the Championships back as a true festival of women’s sport”.
