Buzzing scenes at Twyford Avenue as Wasps secure a bonus point win over Sale Sharks, bringing in the Festive Cheer with four tries from Kerr, Monaghan and Nye.
Sharks found themselves in deep water early on after a red card for dangerous play was awarded, leaving them down a player and fighting with fourteen just thirteen minutes into the game.
It was a slow start to the game in terms of the scoreboard, Wasps not quite managing to convert opportunities into points. It wasn’t until the final play of the half that Wasps drove over the line from a line out leaving Kerr to put the first points on the board. And, with the boot of Williams, Wasps went into the half time break seven points up.
An early penalty in the second half allowed sharks to come within four points of Wasps. However, Wasps were quick to open the gap. In the 55th minute, Monaghan chased to reclaim the ball from the restart and set up Wasps to score- it was Nye who sniped from a ruck to take Wasps’ score to twelve points.
Kerr secured her second try of the game just minutes later, taking her opportunity to pick and go after a sequence of physical attacking play from Wasps.
Sale Sharks responded, taking advantage of poor defensive structure from Wasps in their own 22m, to get the ball out wide to their number fourteen to score.
It was a showstopper of a try from Monaghan that brought the game to a close in the 75th minute, taking advantage of a handling mistake from Sale, reclaiming the ball and sprinting to the line to score!
A great day out in the office and a much needed win for Wasps in preparation for some big games to come. Thank you to all that came to join us at Wasps Fest and hope to see you down at the hive soon!
With thanks to Wasps
