Wasps send Sharks home empty handed

  • +1

It was a memorable match at Twyford Avenue today where Wasps secured a bonus point victory over Sale Sharks. Wasps came away with eight tries, denying Sale Sharks of any despite a strong and ruthless effort from the visiting side.

It was Wasps front row Crake who opened the game with a try in the 9th minute of play following a line break from West. Williams delivered the extras to put Wasps 7 points up on the opposition.

Wasps had the wind on their side in the first half which they used to their advantage to gain territory over the Sharks. However the visiting side did not let up easily and managed to put pressure on and force errors from Wasps.

It was Crake with another try in the 26th minute who led Wasps into the half time break just 12 points ahead of the opposition. At this point, the game was very much still to play for.

Wasps came into their own in the second half and opened up their lead with a try in the second minute from Muir after Dow broke through the Shark’s line. Muir went on to score a hat trick with tries in the 45th and 69th minute of play- a stunning performance from the young front row.

Wasps’ remaining three tries came from the wing. Two Dow specials – darting her way through a sea of Sharks in the 46th and 60th minutes of the game. And one from Boatman who returned to the field today from injury and bagged herself a meeting with the try line in the 57th minute.

A final score of 50-0 ensured Wasps ended the day with 5 points in the bag, jumping ahead of Loughborough Lightning in the table.

Next week Wasps take a trip north to more Shark infested waters to face DMP Durham Sharks away.
