England Women Celebrate Second Successive Series Win [New Zealand Tour – Second T20I, Wellington (Westpac Stadium) on 5 March 2021]

As seen on BT Sports TV and streamed live on website Live Cricket Australia & the ICC match centre, England Women comprehensively beat the NZ White Ferns by six wickets taking a 2-0 series win – another success for Heather Knight’s fifth year as England’s captain. *Remarkably, three England bowlers (Freya Davies, Sarah Glenn and Natalie Sciver) each took two wickets during a single over.

*Following the White Ferns defeat two days ago, skipper Sophie Devine told NZ reporters that England were ‘an outstanding outfit with bat and ball;’ whilst her own side had been ‘under par’

*Put in to bat, Ferns skipper Sophie Devine (8) went ‘leg before’ attempting to sweep Sophie Ecclestone’s first ball. *Fellow opener Hayley Jensen (12 runs off 16 balls) was caught by Sophia Dunkley, off Freya Davies.

*Freya Davies clean bowled two Ferns including star player Amy Satterthwaite (49 off 30) who finished one run short of a half-century.

*Taking four decisive wickets, Freya Davies (4/23) was the pick of England’s bowlers and awarded POTM

*Keeper Amy Jones handed Sarah Glenn two wickets during the same over, stumping Ferns star player Amelia Kerr (25 runs off 22 balls) and Katey Martin (0) who went for a second ball duck. Three overs later, scales tipped England’s way when Freya Davies also took two more wickets, this time during the same over. Finally, Ferns tail-enders Leigh Kasperek (5) and Jess Kerr (1) were both cleaned bowled during Natalie Sciver’s ‘death’ over

*England’s reply quickly lost Danni Wyatt (9) and Natalie Sciver (caught for a second ball duck) – both dismissed by Rosemary Mair during the powerplay. Thereafter, Tammy Beaumont’s (63 runs off 53 balls) fruitful 83 runs partnership with Heather Knight (39 runs off 39 balls) advanced England’s score to 113 before Tammy Beaumont was caught by Amy Satterthwaite at mid-off, off Leigh Kasperek

*Summary: At the Hundred ball benchmark England just needed five runs to win (119/9 vs NZ 108/6). Heather Knight was caught at mid-on by Maddy Green, with the penultimate match ball bowled by Hayley Jensen. England won by a comfortable margin of fourteen balls and six wickets-in-hand
