Australia Women went 10-2 up in the Women’s Ashes and won the trophy outright after a comfortable win in the first Vitality Women’s IT20 at Chelmsford.
A superb unbeaten century from Meg Lanning powered the visitors to an imposing 226-3 and in reply England were never able to get going.
Australia continued to take wickets throughout the hosts’ reply and eventually ran out winners by 93 runs.
Heather Knight: “We’re better than that. We just didn’t bowl well enough.
“It’s tough to take and hard to explain.
“Australia have played very well – and credit to them – but it’s been a tough few weeks for us.
“We have to park this very quickly and turn things around for Hove.”
