Wasps scored five tries in a hard-fought victory over Worcester Valkyries to secure their third win of the season. In a nervy affair, it was Wasps that ceased control early in the second half to seal a 29-10 victory.
Wasps had most of the first half territory but a high penalty count and resolute Worcester defence held the home side out for the first 30 minutes. Eventually pressure told as a strong set piece created space for winger Amy Wilson Hardy to score in the corner.
Worcester hit back shortly afterwards with their first trip into the Wasps 22m, Zoe Bennion scoring for the visitors. Claudia MacDonald ensured Wasps led at the break, as she scooped up a loose ball and dashed 40 metres in for her second score of the season. Wasps 12-5 to the good at the break.
Wasps came out firing early in the second half with two quick scores. Katie Mason with a strong finish to dot the ball down in the corner and an inch perfect pass to Abby Dow who raced over the line. With a 24-5 lead Wasps continued to apply pressure but the Worcester defence held firm.
With 10 minutes left on the clock Wasps sealed the win as Katie Mason pounced on a well-placed kick through, before excellent handling put Tova Derk in the corner. Worcester crossed the whitewash just before the final whistle after a sustained period of pressure, Lydia Thompson barrelling over from close range.
